Grateful Dead Launching 50th Anniversary Album Reissue Series Next Year

The Grateful Dead will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their recording career next year with a new album reissue series. Appropriately, it all kicks off with a deluxe edition of their self-titled debut LP.
Starting on Jan. 20, when The Grateful Dead: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition arrives, the band’s studio and live albums will be released as special editions around the time of their anniversary dates. The expanded two-disc version of their first record includes a remastered disc of the original album and a second disc with live tracks recorded at the Vancouver Trips Festival in July 1966, eight months before the release of the band’s debut LP in March 1967.

The band will also start a new reissue series next year that features the Dead’s 27 singles on 7-inch colored vinyl, each limited to 10,000 copies and available only on their website. The records will be issued quarterly over the next few years. The first four will come out in 2017, with “Stealin'” b/w “Don’t Ease Me In” to be released on March 1 as part of an annual subscription service.
The 50th anniversary edition of the debut album will also be available on vinyl, in a limited-edition picture disc that will be available on the same date as the CD.

Ted Nugent to Angry Hillary Clinton Supporters: ‘Quit Being

Ted Nugent has a message for those protesting the victory of President-Elect Donald Trump: “Get over it, and get in the game of life. Quit being pussies. You’re embarrassing yourselves and America.”
Nugent, an early Trump supporter, argued that the outcry over the electoral defeat of Hillary Clinton is symptomatic of a larger issue in the country today. “We’ve got a lot of work to do in America to make it great again,” he wrote on Facebook. “Job #1 is to de-pussify all of the entitled, arrogant, ignorant, spoiled pussies created during the last eight years. That won’t be easy.”
He suggests a change in attitude, beginning with college administrators and the parents of the next generation. “What America needs,” he says, “are tough, hungry, competitive and smart young people to make it great again.”

In the end, life provides a series of steep challenges – and everyone has to be prepared for that, Nugent noted. “These entitled little rose pedals didn’t get their way in the election,” he said. “So they’re now whining, crying, protesting, bitching, squawking, complaining, walking out of school and demanding their sniveling, spoiled pussy voices be heard instead of manning up, putting on their big boy pants and wading into the white-water rapids of life where pussies get swept away and drowned.”
Moreover, Nugent wondered where all of this pent-up rage is coming from in the first place: “Interestingly, I don’t recall any young people on the right-hand side of the political aisle throwing temper tantrums like these crying pussies after Mr. Obama won the White House in 2008 and 2012.”

The new set, called the “Elevated Edition,” features two CDs of music and a DVD. The first disc features Steven Wilson’s new stereo mixes of the original 1969 album, paired with rare recordings like “Bouree.” There are also four additional songs recorded at the BBC, as well as stereo single mixes of “Driving Song” and “Living in the Past.”
The second disc in the Stand Up: Elevated Edition set finds Jethro Tull performing live in Sweden, just a few weeks after Martin Barre joined the band. Highlights from the evening’s set list include two cuts from Stand Up, plus songs originally found on the band’s debut album. Another Wilson remix, this time in surround sound, is included on the DVD along with concert footage from January 1969 and other goodies.
Stand Up marked an early turning point for Jethro Tull, as their second album introduced folk-rock influences into what had previously been a sturdy blues-based sound. It also marked the first studio collaboration with Barre, a guitarist who would become Tull leader Ian Anderson‘s longest-running bandmate.
In a recent interview, Anderson selected Stand Up as his favorite Tull album, “because that was my first album of first really original music. It has a special place in my heart.”

The Outlaws‘ new Legacy Live is out today, and we have an exclusive premiere of the entire double album. You can listen to all of the tracks above.
“The making of Legacy Live was an exciting project to work on because we knew how much the fans would embrace it, and how important it was to give them a new part of the Outlaws’ 40 plus year musical legacy,” singer and guitarist Henry Paul tells us. “Outlaw fans are very invested in the band’s career and they put themselves fully into everything we do. It gives me a personal sense of pride to be a part of providing them something that I knew they would appreciate.”
Legacy Live contains many of the group’s best-known songs, including “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Ghost Riders,” “Green Grass & High Tides Forever” and “Freeborn Man,” but it also contains several tracks from their most recent studio effort, 2012’s It’s About Pride. For Paul, it was important to present elements of their entire 40-year history.
“The song selection gave a very diverse look at the band’s musical profile and gave some songs a long overdue chance to be heard in a live setting,” he notes. “Legacy Live is the result of many inspired performances, hours of hard work in putting it together and it captures a ‘Night in the Life’ of the Outlaws in 2016.”
The title track to It’s About Pride, whose lyric video we recently premiered, is an ode to Southern rock, referencing groups like the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band. Paul told us that by creating what he called “redneck hippie rock” and infusing it with the imagery of the South, the Outlaws and their contemporaries were able to transcend regional differences.
“It was kind of like cowboys and Indians,” he says. “And the music was significant in its character. It was important in its message: ‘Ramblin’ on My Mind’ by Marshall Tucker or ‘Workin’ for MCA,’ ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ – I mean, right then and there, it was lights out. It was ‘Oh yeah, we are our own people. F— everybody in California. We’re our own musical army of like-minded messengers.’”

It looks as if the long-awaited Freddie Mercury biopic is back on again. It’s being reported that Emmy winner Rami Malek will be playing the legendary Queen frontman.

The news comes courtesy of the Guardian, who also reveal that the film will be called Bohemian Rhapsody and Bryan Singer, best known for X-Men: Apocalypse and The Usual Suspects, will direct. Singer confirmed this with a post on Instagram.

The 35-year-old Malek, a native of Los Angeles, won an Emmy this year for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of hacker Elliot Alderson on the highly acclaimed USA Network series Mr. Robot. He’s also had recurring roles on 24, The Pacific and has been in all three films in the Night at the Museum series as King Akhmenrah.

Bohemian Rhapsody has already had a long and troubled history. In 2013, Sacha Baron Cohen had signed on to star, but he left after clashing with Brian May and Roger Taylor over the creative direction of the film. Cohen later revealed that he wanted a more accurate portrayals of Freddie’s drug use and homosexuality, while the former members wanted Mercury’s 1991 death to happen midway through the film, so audiences could see the band triumphantly carrying on in his absence. Prior to Malek’s hiring, they had been linked with Ben Whishaw, who has been playing Q in the James Bond franchise since 2012.

A year after Cohen quit, they had hired Dexter Fletcher to direct. However, he left after only a few weeks, also citing “creative differences.”
